Accident Prone (single version) [bonus track] (4:08) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Presentation by Garry Fielding (from the CD sleeve): Status Quo's "If You Can't Stand The Heat" album was released on the 27th October 1978. It was the band's second LP to be produced by Pip Williams - following the success of the "Rockin' All Over The World" album in 1977. The LP had been recorded at Hilversum Studios in Holland during the summer and saw the band experiment further with their sound. The release of the album brought a mixed reaction from the fans but it nevertheless entered the UK charts at the number three position. Rick Parfitt told 'Record Mirror' magazine: "I think it is one of the best albums that we've made. Pip Williams must take some of the credit as he pulled a lot of things out of the band". Looking back Alan Lancaster felt differently: "I felt that we had lost our direction with this album and it was not until the "Whatever You Want" album in 1979 that we were back on track". In total "If You Can't Stand The Heat" spent 14 weeks in the UK album charts. Original copies of the album were issued in a gatefold sleeve and came with a lyric inner bag. The LP had been preceded by the release of "Again And Again" as a single, backed with "Too Far Gone" (from the "Rockin' All Over The World" LP) on the 25th August. As well as being a preview for the album, the singles release had been timed to coincide with Quo's headline appearance at the 1978 Reading Festival. It was to be the band's only UK show that year due to a self-imposed period of tax exile. The single achieved a chart run of nine weeks and peaked at the Number 13 position. A second single from the album was issued on the 17th November when Vertigo Records released an edited version of "Accident Prone". The B-side "Let Me Fly" was also taken from the "If You Can't Stand The Heat" album. By the band's high standards the single was a disappointment, only managing to climb to the Number 36 position in the UK chart. However, on the continent the single had more impact, reaching the more creditable Number 13 position in the Dutch charts, number 15 in the Belgian chart and number 19 in Germany. Vertigo Records in Spain opted instead to issue "Like A Good Girl" backed by "Someone Show Me Home" as a single. The year ended with Status Quo back in the recording studios in Holland recording material for their follow up LP. The band were already writing new songs before "Accident Prone" had even been released as a single. The new material was not to be issued until October 1979, due to delayed contract negotiations with their record company, and became the "Whatever You Want" album.
