Rock 'N' Roll (single version) [bonus track] (4:04) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Presentation by Garry Fielding (from the CD sleeve): With a UK tour booked for March 1981, Status Quo released their "Something 'Bout You Baby I Like" single on the 28th February. It was a cover of a well known song with perhaps the most successful version, at that time, being by Tom Jones. Francis Rossi said: "We've developed a knack of taking a song, stripping it down and turning it into a Quo song. I've got versions at home by at least five different artists but the way we've recorded it, it sounds like a Quo song". The single gave the band another hit in the UK when it reached the Number Nine position and spent seven weeks in the chart. Copies were available in either a blue, red or multicolored sleeve. The B-side "Enough Is Enough" was also taken from the forthcoming "Never Too Late" album and the single was also a hit in the German, French, Dutch, Spanish and Belgian charts. The material for the "Never Too Late" LP had been recorded in Ireland in 1980, along with the songs that were used for the band's previous album "Just Supposin'". Once again the recordings were produced by the band and their studio engineer John Eden. The album was released on the 20th March and entered the UK charts at the Number Two position, on the back of the successfully completed British tour. In all the album spent thirteen weeks in the charts and original copies came with a lyric inner bag and included a merchandise leaflet. Rather than release a second single from the "Never Too Late" album, the band decided to issue "Rock 'N Roll" from their "Just Supposin'" album instead. An edited version of the song was issued by Vertigo Records on the 20th November 1981. The B-side (which played at 33 RPM for sound quality reasons) featured "Hold You Back" (from the "Rockin' All Over The World" album of 1977) and "Backwater" (from the "Quo" album of 1974). A jukebox version of the single (given the special catalogue number of QUO JB6) was produced with just "Hold You Back" and played at the standard 45 RPM. The single became the band's 23rd UK hit when it reached the Number 8 position and spent a total of eleven weeks in the chart. In Spain the album title track was issued as a single, backed with "Carol" (also from the LP) as "Rock 'N' Roll" had been released as a single there the previous year. By the end of 1981 Quo had received 91 Platinum, Gold and Silver discs for the world-wide sales of many millions of singles and albums. They were also the the only band that had achieved a Top 20 hit every year since 1973.
